Hi all,

I know this has been covered many many times before and i've been reading through loads of topics over the past few nights and also the artical on the 205gtidrivers homepage but i cant seem to find it!

Its a D6B or xu9ja engine running the jetronic ecu and in what i've read i think it should be in the air intake after the AFM but my air intake comprisies of this

filter-AFM-a K&N rubber bit with two breather pipes-throttle body

I think i read somewhere that some of these engines dont have one? i could be wrong.

I have this but isn't that the vac advance diaphragm?

Any info is really appreciated as im in the middle of cleaning all of the above as advised in "non-starting problem" topics (mine wont start so trying all the usual things stated on here first)

Thanks in advance

Will

First off if my memory is correct, your air flow meter is the wrong way round in that pic!

Start at the black rubber joining pipe with the two stubs on it. There should be two rubber pipes about 25mm OD attached. One of these goes to the oil filler pot doobrey. The other one leads to the SAD.

As per Tom's reply - the SAD is about 8" underneath the dizzy, just below the coolant block that you can just make out in one of those pictures, but if you follow the pipework you'll find it.

The SAD itself won't cause the car not to start though, only not to idle when cold. Basically, all the SAD does it the equivalent of holding the throttle open a touch by allowing a small amount of extra air into the engine to enable it idle faster. That's it - nothing more, nothing less, and alot of faults are incorrectly blamed on the SAD.

In fact, in the bottom picture you can just about see the wiring connector going into the SAD - and it might be a bit of camera trickery, but if it isn't and that connector really is blue, then that's your issue - the blue plug is the ECU temp sensor. The SAD one should be black (and the reverse light white for the sake of completeness).

I changed those connectors around and no joy, i've a bit of a fuel leak at the filter its the copper washers that are shot, have new ones there to replace tomorrow.

I had spark the last time i checked (got a good old shock off it when testing  ) i'll check again tomorrow but the wire from the dizzy is a little worse for wear

I totally read it wrong, but thanks to the replys i've found it, cleaned it and refitted it :)

I will add that I wasn't looking for it because of starting issues, i was wanting to clean it whilst i was cleaning the rest of the breather system and throttle body.

Apologies for being a little short-sighted and posting another SAD topic.

Cheers

Will
