Which Crank

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have pulled out the crank from my mi16 1.9 engine.

On the timing belt puley end there is 2 grooves for the wroodruff key but only one of them used(the one under the timing belt pulley I suspect).

Is it a Mi16 xu9 crank or a xu10 ??

And if it´s a xu10 crank what is the difference? Better og worse than the original xu 9 crank???

My XU9 crank had the two slots in it too, even though only one is used. So that's normal, I think.

Can't be an XU10 crank - the stroke is different (86mm as opposed to 88mm), so you'd have an 1861cc engine if it was, along with a compression ratio all to pot :D

Unless you're engine is something special, but I am assuming you mean a standard engine.

Provided it's standard then there was only one crank ever used to my knowledge. The diesel crank is very similar - 88mm throw - and will drop straight in but the webs hit the spray bars so you'd need to machine the crank if you wanted to use one in an mi16. The 8v crank is different, does not have as many balancer webs on it for a start.

I have an 88mm steel crank from Colin Satchell's old car. Never used it but its certainly right.

I think they are quite an oddity though as not many people seem to find them as many are iron.
