Fuqa 0 Posted July 31, 2003 just had some A539's fitted, and have been road testing them this evening.. previously had a mates f1's on the front, and i must say the yokos are must better.. the f1's were ona 195/50/15. and my yoks are on my 16's they seem really grippy, whereas the f1's would twitch a bit more under hard cornering... they seema better tyre all round actually, less road noise, better grip etc... has anyone else got a539's on at the moment? Doof 11 Posted July 31, 2003 Yea we've got them but i havent really got anything but dark horses to compare them to so i guess my vote doesn't count.
C_W 3 1 Cars Posted August 1, 2003 just had some A539's fitted, and have been road testing them this evening.. previously had a mates f1's on the front, and i must say the yokos are must better.. the f1's were ona 195/50/15. and my yoks are on my 16's they seem really grippy, whereas the f1's would twitch a bit more under hard cornering... they seema better tyre all round actually, less road noise, better grip etc... has anyone else got a539's on at the moment? Were they GSD2 or 3 F1s? Either way they're definatle going to be better than the A539s in the wet. The other thing is that the F1s are actually pretty good on a track a resist tread roll and over heating better than the Yokohama. The only other thing is that the 16s are 45s? so they will feel more responsive, lower, stiffer sidewall etc. F1 is still king!!
Guest hd_andy Posted August 1, 2003 (edited) Woo Hoo!! Another F1 rules all debate! Well I am still sold on the F1's going to get some at the weekend. They are not a bad price either. TopGear for £39 and Brittania for £41. What is the difference between GSD2 and 3 anyway other than the 3 is the newer model? Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted August 1, 2003 You just can't compare the F1's on a 15" wheel with the A539 on a 16" wheel. The sidewall of the 16" wheel is much lower so the tire will always feel like it 'rolls' less and feels more reponsive.
speedy 2 Posted August 1, 2003 you can never compare wheels of different diametres! even width and profile will do a difference. Best way to compare both is on the same car with the same size/profile/ rims....... sometimes in extreme cases even different rims (for example speedlines compared to mag wheels) will make a difference. 205man 0 Posted August 1, 2003 ive got a539 on mine and they are good in the dry, but tend to give you more confidence ans when they do eventually let go of the grip you may have a shock, vut as said htey are so good in the wet, but then we shouldnt be driving that fast when its wet, but these tyres get my vote alan
Sam 4 Posted August 2, 2003 I am getting these next as they are thinner 195s Well surely a 195/45/15 will the same as a 195/45/16 ?! just bigger where it fits to the wheel... as in an extra section put into it for the 16"
Ahl 4 Posted August 2, 2003 but for that very reason there will be more tyre footprint and thus more grip. It's like old cars with their really crap, thin tyres, but massive wheels for more tyre on the road.
