Probably A Stupid Firing Order Question...

Today I finished my Megajolt to a standard where I thought I could try it out and see if it runs!

 

Well, I hit a snag.

 

First, I had the leads from the edis coil pack so that they ran like this:

 

Coil Point No 1 - Plug 1

Coil Point No 2 - Plug 2

Coil Point No 3 - Plug 4

Coil Point No 4 - Plug 4

 

 

This did nothing apart from send some heavy pops out of the exhaust.

 

 

 

So I figured, MI16 Firing order is 1-3-4-2

 

 

So I swapped to this set up

 

Coil Point No 1 - Plug 1

Coil Point No 2 - Plug 3

Coil Point No 3 - Plug 4

Coil Point No 4 - Plug 2

 

 

This is better and tries to fire, but stops and backfires a bit.

 

 

What is the correct Coil Pack point to run to each plug? ? ?

I don't have an EDIS coil in front of me to see what the points correspond to, but basically, you need to fire cylinders 1 and 4 off one of the coils, and 2 and 3 off the other (the EDIS coilpack, like other wasted-spark coilpacks, consists of two seperate coils internally, each firing two cylinders)

Yes, they are numbered, but I am sure that is for the ford engine?

plugs 1 and 4 will still be on the same bank of firing though even if the firing order was different. ie. 1,3,4,2 or 1,2,4,3. if that second firing order even exists.

Ignition was 180 out!!
