Anyone Taken A Centre Console Apart Before ?

Recommended Posts

Silky

I have a Grey Phase 1.5 centre console with Grey carpeted sides on it, I also have a Black Phase 2 centre console with red carpeted sides on it.

What I want is the grey carpet on the black console.

Anyone ever taken one apart before ?

It looks as though I just want to switch the lower opening lid and drawer plus the small tray over onto the other one.

Looks as though it is all plastic welded (if that makes sense) meaning it'll crack/break if I give it too much stick.

Am I better off peeling the carpets off and glueing the grey carpet onto the Black console ?

Yup, swap the carpets, the plastics are heat welded to the carcass (basically melted together)

Thanks for the answers lads.

What did you use to clean/prepare the surface and what type of glue did you use ?

any contact adhesive, just scrape off any stray carpet backing left on the console and glue straight to it. I used a don carlos knife (AKA moon knife) to remove the old carpet -have a look on ebay- evil but effective

Looks like quite an effective tool for any type of activity, legal or illegal.

Will have a go at getting the red carpet off first as I don't mind if I accidently rip that.

Any special tips or is it pretty straight forward ?

Thanks for the advice lads. Over the weekend I peeled the carpets off and got the grey carpet onto the black centre console.

Got to check it tonight but all looking good, thanks
