Alternator Problems

Recommended Posts

munster

Can anyone tell me what other alternators will fit my 1990 Mi engine?

Will an 8v one be ok?

Also, what is the best way to change it? Drop the rad, or remove the inlet possibly?

This is on a 205 conversion btw.

Thanks

You should be able to get it out without removing anything, they'll just about come out the bottom. Any alt will do, I just got an 80 Amp 306 one for mine.

Thanks Cameron. Its going to be much easier to get a hold of an 8v alternator than 16v.

I really hope your right about not removing anything. A friend of mine said he needed to remove his radiator.. Guess i will find out soon!

Well at worst you may have to unbolt the inlet manifold and take it out through the top, but I've never had to.

The Mi has a 6 rib belt the 8v has a 5 so you will have to use a 8v belt. When I did mine I had to remove the rad to get the alt out.

You could try removing the bottom engine mount and tilting the engine to get it out.

I didn't remove the inlet as I did it on a Sunday and did not have a new gaskit to refit it.
