Why Is My Alternator Belt Squeaking?

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

the belt squeaks a little bit on tickover and occasionally loudly on gear change. so i though it must just be loose and tightened it, which did bugger all. do i just need a new belt?

cheers

john

Could be, worth a try before anything else anyhow, as they are cheap.

mines a new belt and tried WD40, still makes a racket. It is because the belt doesn't sit square, where the alt bolt goes through the engine mount it has worn the mount on the side nearest the body. This causes the belt to twist slightly and make a noise. Worth checking.
