Bad Juddering Under Braking

Recommended Posts

chris-stdt

Recently under braking ive noticed bad juddering which gets worse under hard braking

Is it most likely to be worped disks althogh the disks and pads are only a few months old and the disks dont seem to be blued or might it be a dodgy caliper as ive noticed recently the front brakes stick slightly when pulling away from junctions and on jacking the car up the front left does stick abit but would this cause the bad shaking effect under braking?

Any help with this would be greatly appreiciated

Thanks Chris

If its really fast and almost feels like ABS, then I would certainly think the disk is warped.

Where did you get the discs from Chris?

Could be some dirt between hub and brake disc.

I'd whip the left one off, if that's the one you know sticks, and check it over.

Get a nice flat edge against the disc and see if there is anything noticeable, if not then ensure hub completely clean before refitting.

Also worth checking whilst caliper is off, that the pad surfce is flat.

The disks were cheap ones from halfords

Ans dirt between the disk and hub is possible as it has started happening since some enthusiastic driving down a dirt track last weekend

On closer inspection the disks are fine but one of the pads on the lh side is all cracked and falling apart which is causing the brake to bind as the material in the pad has expanded , the pads have only done 2-3k (ferodo) so i shall be taking them back next week

Most likely to be pad material stuck to the disk, get some 80grit ali oxide paper on a random orbital and scuff both sides of both discs up, then refit.

Use new pads from the sound of it aswell, or if current ones are alright then linish them flat. Or use a flat surface with sandpaper on it. Or a kerb stone, although I would never recommend that.
