Brake Pad Fitting Kits

Recommended Posts

dch1950

Hi all,

just a quick question. I am going to fit 1.9 calipers to my 1.6 and I can't find a supplier of a pad fitting kit (Girling).

It's not on servicebox and doesn't drop out as a seperate item on the main brake supplier sites on the web.

They must exist of course, but where is best to get one.

regards

Dave

New Girling pads usually come with replacement bolts, this is all that is needed. There is not a "fitting kit" as such.

Hi Tom,

There certainly looks to be more than that in Haynes, Springs, shims and some pins (not bolts)

so I am surprised by this response.

Have you actually got your 1900 calipers yet?

Hi Tom,

Yes - I've had then soaking in DEOX-C and have brushed then down. Today I'm going to paint them. Then I'll fit new pistons and a BIGGred refurb kit. I've ordered some Mintex pads.

regards

Dave.

PS actual calipers shown on the thread about cleaning parts in vinegar.

They are just standard 1.9 Girling calipers, no springs shims or pins.

The caliper I would imagine you have seen is a very early Girling caliper, which was not used on the 1.9, you need to go to Chapter 13 in the workshop manual to see the 1.9 caliper as the 1.9 came out after the First print of the Manuals.

In that case then if you have a look you'll see there are no pins shims springs required.

The pads have an inbuilt spring, and a decent set of pads will come with 4 M8 bolts with threadlocking compound pre applied to go into the sliders.

Thanks Welshpug, interestingly though fig 13.77 still refers to an anti-squeal shim for the later girling caliper. How late is late if not early?

Hi Tom

How could I see that then - pins maybe as there's no holes (should have spotted that - schoolboy error)

And as I don't have the pads yet I wouldn't have known that a spring is pre-fitted.

Thanks though

Dave

what are you getting so arsey about?

When things are obvious fair play, but they weren't apart the matter of the pins which I admitted I should have spotted.

Several web sites do quote their own fitting kit no. so it is not at all clear hence my question.

Get over yourself.

Dave

Hi Billy,

Thanx for that mate, as some confusion existed in my mind.

Is the mod worthwhile in your opinion ?
