Complete Fluid Change.

We’re hopefully fitting the braided hoses, m/c ,bias valve and running new lines through the car this weekend.

 

All the fluid will be changed, I just need to know how much will be required please?

 

I have some but need to know if I need to grab another bottle.

If it's completely empty, which it sounds it will be due to new lines etc, then i'd get over a litre, but usually i get away with a litre for a simple fluid flush & change tbh.

Also depends how good you are at bleeding the system. I'm pretty inexperienced so usually find I have problems bleeding all the air out, and inevitably end up using far more fluid than I should need to. Nothing worse than getting half way through and running out ;)

I'd get 3 500mL bottles, and see how you go, shoudl be able to do it in under a litre ;)

I've got a large bottle of unused but old fluid - is probably no good for actually using in brake lines, but kept it for priming new setups. Once bled through with the old stuff, bleed through minimum amount of new.

 

Approx 4 litres left when I last checked, so we got that to get us started.

If it's unused and clean how do you tell when the better stuff is bled through?

 

I think I've got a bottle of Halfords dot 5.1 in the garage so I'll grab that.

 

Is it ok to mix that with dot 4 when we prime it? I'm happy to just get some more of the 5.1 to be on the safe side.

I dont like the way alex describes doing brakes personally. How do you know when the old fluid is out?

 

Personally id just stick new stuff in straight away, bleed it until there is no air bubbles coming out and then move onto the next one.

dont think you should mix dot 4 with 5.1 but not 100 per cent on this best check what it says on the bottle

I've played it safe and picked up some new 5.1 and will do the whole lot with that.

also I think you'll notice the old and the new, the old is always a bit darker than the new.

Wrong.

 

Don't mix 5.0 and 5.1

Dot 5 is silicone based.

You can mix 4 and 5.1

i knew there was a diffrence somewhere but wasnt sure where ,which is why i said to check thanks for the info

It's not old fluid, just left over from the last job. Nothing wrong with it, just wouldn't use it permanently.

 

You know when it is out by colour.

 

I don't know why anyone would follow any of your advice, seeing as though every bit of advice you've ever been given you either ignore or run off and ask for a second opinion.

 

Oh and while we're on the subject of you, you're a complete timewaster when it comes to buying parts too.
