A Good Set Up.

Just thought I'd stick a post on here as there seem to be lots of questions about suspension set ups.

Firstly I am completely un technical as I guess lot's of us are and have tried lots of different set ups, some with success some not. I've tried many different shocks and wasted loads of money and can only say that unless you buy good tried and tested parts, you're better leaving things standard.

My car's a 205 Rallye LHD which came with a standard Phase 1.5 1600Gti set up. The car is only used for speed events, it has the TU (lighter than XU) engine so this might not work as well with a XU car.

Front

Std hubs,PTS Group N 205Gti arms, 309 Gti Anti roll bar with std 309 Gti bushes, Bilstein coil overs with adj ride height, Skip Brown Dual Rate 2.25" tarmac springs, Bilstein long top spindle tarmac inserts (200/300 rating), PTS fixed spherical bearing top mounts. The ride height is about 1 inch lower than standard.

Rear

PTS GroupN hard rubber subframe mounts, PTS 23mm anti roll bar, PTS 21mm torsion bars and Bilstein yellow tarmac spec shocks (From Miles).

I run the car on 7" PTS 13 inch wheels with 195/45 and 175/50 tyres.

All the angles are standard, so it's probably got zero negative camber

The car runs completely flat with virtually no roll, no dive or squat, turns in sharply with no understeer and will gently oversteer if you want it to. It doesn't spin and the ride is really quite supple with no crashing etc. The car does have a diff and a cage which probably helps.

Apart from being fairly quick for a road going 1300 it is really user friendly with no vices, plus the parts although expensive last a long time and are trouble free. Ok it could do with some neg camber on the front to save the outer edges of the tyre (Where are those new top mounts BBM? )

Hope this of use to someone!
