Rebuild Koni's Or Return To Std?

Recommended Posts

Hi all.just had an m.o.t. on my 1.9 gti and although it passed it only just scraped through on the shocks, apparently two of the four are ever so slightly weeping oil.The shocks are Konis, the fronts are adjustable and the rears look unadjustable.I'm guessing they are re-buildable as i've had other shocks(bilsteins) re-built in the past for our griff, but are there choices of who to use and does anyone know the cost?

At the same time i'm contemplating returning to a std type of unadjustable set of shocks,as i dont really need adjustability due to not tracking or racing the car in any way. What are my options on std type shocks, ones to avoid and what works best?Any price and source info much appreciated as the choices look bewildering!!

Cheers Baz,i gave them a call and they can re-build for £65+vat a shock, which seems reasonable to me as it was a similar cost for my Bilstiens.Apparently it's not really worth doing the rears as they are only £85 each brand new!

Try Paul Drake at Raceline Suspension. Top man, knows exactly what he's doing, rebuilds Koni's all the time (for the top gould hillclimb cars)! Not sure what he'd charge but worth giving him a try.
