How Stiff Should Ball Joints Be? (on Tca's)

ive just been swapping my base model brakes for 1.6gti items and whilst i was there i decided to change the track control arms for the 309 ones i've had for a while. i started on the passenger side, and have now finnished doing that side. i was just wondering how easy the ball joints should be to move by hand? i can moe them by hand but it takes a bit of doing! the one that came off had a knackered rubber bit and the ball joint was moving easily, so im not sure whether the one ive just put on is a bit knackerd or the one i took off was im hoping for the latter!

When new, they're very tight indeed, and they get progressively looser as the miles pile on, until they get sloppy and eventually have play.
