[trackday_prep] 205 Xs Budget Track Hack

Recommended Posts

Lan

I recently aquired a XS, with the intention of sending it to track. but on a budget i plan to keep everything mechanical that is currently on it until it breaks and ill go from there on that side of things.

Work List

Strip Car

Fit Cage

Fit buckets and harnesses

Fit gti front brakes

weld hole

replace gear linkage (quick shift maybe?? ideas?)

any other suggestions and comments or advice is welcome

Work Carried out so far

rear wiper and wash removed filled and sprayed (not laquered yet),btw not goin for pro finish as you can see :)

Rear quarter paint damage touched up

Interior Stripped

The only rust in the whole car, plate to be welded in, phase 1.5 = fantastic, and on the graphite i actually prefer the orange indicators and rear clusters

and thats it so far progress maybe slow due to funding as im going on holiday soon and need the money for that

Looking good! The rusty patch on your is exactly where mine had gone too - and where most 205's seem to rot for some reason. Keep posting the pictures up as you go along. The XS makes for a really fun car on the cheap, it's a pity they are so rare these days.

Tis exactly where mine had started to go too!

Do it properly and you'll be showing those GTis a thing or two soon enough :P

And the engine has been reassembled no more blue smoke :), and i painted the rocker cover a very original red with the leftovers from the bumper strips doesnt look as red as it is in this pic tho.

will be continuing this in a few weeks time when I've made space in the garage and the car is off the road again, watch this space

Edit: and the word budget should technically be gone with how much most of the parts I'm getting/got have cost me

Right at long last some sort of update:

Car is finally of the road once more, this time to complete what I started last year.

To do list:

Bodywork: tidy up paint, strip back underside and repaint and underseal, fit roll cage

Suspension and brakes: I've pretty much already prepared all of this got a GTI subframe and 1.9 rear beam to go on with disc brakes and Gaz coilovers to go on

Engine and gearbox rebuild, probably going to get a quaife atb for the box to replace the weak MA differential, the engine will be pretty much standard

Hopefully it will be finished around this time next year but we will see if money allows, anyway on to the pictures the first lot are before pics and the latter are where the car is up to

and there we go, order of photos isn't exactly perfect, but i'm sure you get the jist of the car and other parts just being stripped down, hopefully more updates soon
