Mi16 Power Steering Question

Recommended Posts

dino20vt

Right, im 3/4 of the way through removing an 8v 1.9 engine with power steering, as its going to be replaced with a 1.9 16v without power steering. Will the pump and belt just bolt onto the mi16 block or is it not quite as simple as that?

Miles

No, you need all the 16v stuff

There's nowhere on the 16v to fit the 8v pump. The 16v engine has a pump mounted on top of the gearbox and driven by a belt from a pulley on the end of the cam.

You'll need the 16v pump, mounting bracket, pulley and belt, and the high-pressure pipe from the pump to the rack.

Am I right in thinking

the 205 8v can be used but needs to be shortened ie most of the metal pipe that went under the inlet need to go.

a 205 diesel pipe is a direct fit

the 405 mi16 pipe is a direct fit?

Are there any other PSA cars that could supply me with the hose or full set up?

Some 205 diesels had the pump on top of the gearbox like the mi16, you you could use parts from one. I think the pump and high-pressure pipe are the same, not sure about the mounting braket and belt/pulley though.

Which diesels had the pump on the gearbox, all with PAS turbo or n/a?

Are all parts the same?

Any other PSA cars share this set up?
