Where is the best place to negative earth the battery?? I currently have it on the gearbox on a bolt. Would a bad earth cause the lights to come on? :D

A bad earth can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. 205's are earthed to both the gearbox and the inner wing. Take it off and clean up the mating surface, amke sure there's a decent connection and remove any corrosion

The battery normally Earth's on the box first due to the starter motor current, Then onto the chassis

You should have 2 cables comming off your battery, 1 to the iner wing and 1 to the gearbox.

check that the nut is tight and you have a clean conection on the gearbox and that the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine are tight.

Lights flashing up on the dash could be the brown multiplug.

As said, earth problems can result in no end of electrical gremlins !

Id be reluctant to run on just a box earth. Ive added in some extra ones too.

For the cost, its worth renewing the the earth cables, and even the power ones.
