Fitting 306 Brakes - Problems.

Recommended Posts

springs

i tried test fitting my 306 1.8XS brake callipers today only to find that they don't seem to fit. i tried it with a disk on the car and it looks like it only gives a few mm clearance for pads... any ideas? is there a special way to fit these?

If you are using 1600 front hubs that is your problem. You need 1900 front hubs to use 306 brakes.

From the driveshaft nuts I don't think they are, but could be wrong. If the shaft nuts are 32mm AF then they are 1600 shafts and hence hubs. 1900 stuff is 35/36mm AF shaft nuts.

So do the calipers fit on with the disk fitted? Do you have any photos of the disks fitted?

In them photos it looks like the pistons are pushed out, try winding them in with a G clamp or something.

I know this is generally the norm. Only reason i question, is one of my shafts its 32 mm, the other is 35mm. The 35mm has a cover, which goes over the nut, then the pin, the 32 mm has holes in for the pin already.

Definately 1900 hubs, as im running 307 brakes on them.

Have you actually tried fitting both the disc and the pads?

Don't forget the tophat part of the disc means that the actual disc faces sit fairly far back, plus once the disc is between the caliper carrier the you have the thickness of the carrier in which the pads will fit.

On top of all this the caliper will then slide over and you should be fine.
