Replacing Brake Shoes

Recommended Posts

I'm really struggling basically. Trying to follow the haynes manual but still struggling.

I've got the old ones off (good start!), i've put the handbrake adjuster thingy on with the appropriate spring, connected the handbrake cable and bottom spring. But it says to 'engage the strut at the top with the slot'. This i cannot do mainly due to not knowing what these are!!

Does anybody have any words of wisdom or insight into how i might get this done?

I have the correct shoes btw lol

Do one side at a time, so you then can look at the other side to see how it goes back. I have done these Bendix rear shoes many times now so I know how they go, but short of physically showing you I wouldn't like to even attempt describing it ont'net.

Mine are the girling type. Would renewing the springs make it particularly easier?

Ok, now i've got the new shoes fitted and they seem to work :). However now only the one wheel is stopped by the handbrake, would this be adjusted by the bar thingy with the spinny fork (excellent descriptive words i know :) )?
