These discs are to replace GTI6 discs using GTI6 callipers and carriers and are 2KG lighter per side!!!

They definately brake well on a Sprint - well suited :D

Seen similar disc on off-road bikes, the design on them helps cut through mud..so apart from the weight advantage what are the other benefits.

They look fantastic too BTW :D

:D

They've got some serious bite when you pair 'em up with some Carbon Lorraines :D

Only trouble is, my car's only gone 200 yards with 'em so far, so you're still one up on me

1st production set should be off the mill and back from the grinders in 2-3 weeks

I saw these at the PSOCC Yorkshire meet a couple of months back. Severely tempted, but just waiting for Phil to upgrade the 266mm ones on his 306 so they come to me nice and cheap

I still have quite a bit of life in my genuine Pug ones so I can't really justify the expense at the moment (and need 2 shocks for the BMW that are dealer only parts  )

The look fantastic, much better than the disc bells i made at Uni last year. Just a quick question though; have you tested the drag coefficient of these against a standard disc?

Aerodynamic drag or do you mean the friction coefficent?

Friction Coefficient

Slightly lower by a small amount due to the extra surface pressure - but it is only slightly, given brake pads are fairly insensitive to that anyway, especially if you're using a harder pad like DS2500/3000 or carbon lorraines, etc, in which case it's barely measurable.

Happily, it's offset by a longer moment arm from the shape, so there's a actually a small net gain in braking leverage/force.

And of course, they effectively lengthen the leading edge for more intial pad bite from self servoing, similar to a split pad setup where you have mutiple pads per caliper side for multiple leading edges.

Easier way:

Dave, what do they feel like compared to your old discs?

:(

The most apparent thing was that they have great 'bite' and genuinely work from cold

With the standard 1.9 setup and also with the GTI6 setup - heading for the start line it was essential to do some left foot braking or stamping on the brakes a few times to get some heat in them, with these wavies it doesn't seem to matter/be necessary!

I was testing two sets of tyres, one set clearly had less grip and with these I could easily lock the wheels, with the grippier set, it was much easier to modulate and they would only lock if I was being a bit careless

It's difficult to say whether they actually brake 'better' than the GTI6 discs, but all I ever wanted was for them to brake similarly and be significantly lighter and those boxes have been ticked - the added bonus as I said is they appear to work from cold which for my use is brilliant

Maybe some forum members don't realise just how much heavier any of the 'big brake' setups are - GTI6, 307, 206GTI etc compared to the standard 1.9 setup.

(I can't quote it exactly- but it is several kilo's) When I first changed from the standard 1.9 setup to the GTI6 setup, the car was noticeably slower to 'pick up' out of corners - presumably because of the BIG increase in unsprung weight, but this seemed less apparent with the wavies on Sunday which are 2KG lighter per side than the GTI6 discs (this difference in performance may however all be in my mind though  )

I noticed the same thing going to 266's which is why I haven't gone any bigger

Although, effectively you've got the weight of the 266's now, with the leverage of the 283's...

I don't think much to your gentle bedding in procedure though :(

You mean they don't bed in in 6 miles going to the shops then

I saw these on Sunday fitted to dave's car when we were swapping wheels over to try his other tyres & they do look good. :)

They look good, have you got the 266mm sets finished & for sale?

I might have to get a set for the GTI at least but might be tempted for the 306 if they make a decent performance difference.

Graham.

Yep, the fixtures for the 266mm discs are done, need to know which disc you are using though as there are 2 different offsets available.

So they'd work fine with my Pagid RS4-2's then  Got a price for a 247mm disc ....or should i go for a 266mm
