Recommended Posts

James_R

Hi all, I was hoping for some help I'm after a side on picture of the timing belt on a later GTi engine.

I've searched and google only managed this;

If you have a shot of the later set up that would be much appreciated.

later tensioner looks much the same as a manual tensioner on the twin cam engine.

By later do you mean the one with the eccentric tensioner? (rather than standard spring type)

bare block might do thank you :D

looking at how to tension an 8v block sans water pump :D so a picture would be pretty handy

And yes the later ecc tension ones (I'm using an XU7J4 block)

I should be able to get a better picture of the block later as I've stripped it down and painted it :D

Awesome work, did you get the engine mount in the end, appears I have one spare now.

yep I did, found 5 XU7 engined pugs in a small scrappy that picks up untaxed vehicles for DVLA in west London :D

one of which was a non-a/c 306 so I got the whole lot, £15 :D

Just to update this a little, If you're using an XU7 block with 8v head then you have to go with the later 114tooth set up and eccentric tensioner, the spring loaded item can't be fitted as the whole on the exhaust side of the block for the "cam" bit to bolt in to isn't present.

Also you can't run the head mounted engine mount as the front of the blocks are different.

I'll put some pics up when I find a suitabley short belt to miss out the waterpump loop.
