Mi16 Alloy Block Thermostat Housing With 8v Take Off

Recommended Posts

philfingers

This was the cause of my major coolant loss on Sunday.

When I installed the motor I used the std Mi thermostat hosuing and the 8v alloy take off. It didn't seem to fit snug so instead of just some instant gasket as I used on the 8v I made a rubber gasket. it blew this out the side (resulting in the coolant loss) after 100 miles when it got hot.

Should there be a gasket of any type in there? What does everyone else do?

Phil

There should be a rubber seal that either fits around the edge of the thermostat or a 2 piece one to sit either side of it.
