Wheel Nut Torque And Tyre Pressures

Recommended Posts

Guest MarchHare

Track day tomorrow and need some advice please. 205 1.9 gti with 15 inch speedline alloys. What should I torque the wheel nuts to and what pressures should I run on track for Toyo Proxes T1R?

Personally I would torque the wheel nuts up to 60-70NM you decide.

Tyre pressures seem to be a thing of mystery and not passed around much so you might have to find out yourself.

Id start with something like 26psi and when you come in, go round quickly and check what the pressures are at, ensuring each tyre is also warm.

wheel nuts are 90nm, not 60-70!

set pressures to approx 2.2bar

also set the tyre pressure when tyre is cold

Yeah the wheel nuts are 90nm. The T1-R's have quite a soft sidewall so a higher pressure is needed to overcome this, however they are quite soft so the more pressure you run the quicker they will heat up and therefore, quicker they will overheat and melt.

Thanks chaps, that'll be circa 32 psi in old money then and set cold.

I have always reset the pressures hot when on track as they probably will run at different temperatures due to differing work loads.

I suppose its just a case of seeing what they feel like and playing around a bit to get a good balance.

Any thoughts on trying to get similar pressures all round when hot?
