1.6 -1.9 8v Conversion

I know this has been covered before but im changing the engine in my 1.6 due to repeated HG failure and wondered if i could easily put in a 1.9 as there easier to come by

 

My main qeustions are if i can find an engine from a phase two ,

 

Is the wiring the same

Are the clutches the same as ive just put a new one in mine

Would a 309 gti engine have the same multiplugs/sensors

The conversion is very straight forward.

 

Take the flywheel and clutch of your 1.6 and put it on your 1.9, the flywheel is lighter for a start.

 

309 1.9 engine is the same as a 205 1.9

Thanks ed i also read somewhere that earlier engines wont run in a phase two due to different wiring ,is this true ?

Pretty much, there is slight differences in wiring but not that much, you can adapt it. TBH, you wont find a phase 1 engine that easily anyway as most of them are binned by now, or still sitting in the cars.
