Draining The Oil From Sump

Recommended Posts

bombhead88

Just a quick question as im new to pug ownership and DIY servicing;

Ive come to change the oil on my 1.9 after doing everything else for the servicing, but im abit confused

as to location of the sump drain plug. Ive got a haynes manual and the under-engine shot labels the one on

the very bottom of the sump as 'engine/transmission oil drain plug' and later on theres another pictures

which shows it on the rear of the sump. Ive had a look and ive found them both and the one on the rear

has a cable connected to it.

Which one is it?

On the 1.9/1.6 Gti it's on the bottom (horizontal surface) of the sump. Usually has a square 8mm hole, so you'll need a sump plug key. The one at the back with the cable is the oil temp sensor.

OK Cool, i was thinking it was that one, just that the haynes manual was confusing me with the pictures.

Cheers for that :ph34r:

Don't forget to fit a new copper washer. :ph34r:
