Sump Bolt Positions ?

Recommended Posts

buster205

hi all !

haynes manual says to check position of sump bolts before removing. i'm thinking my sump may have been removed and bolts wrongly replaced. where do the cap head bolts go (allen key type) mine are around corner of drivers side/front of sump. would seem more logical to be on passenger side of sump where access is more limited ???

that's the correct position for the allen head bolts.

another thing to check, is that out of all the other bolts there are only two shorter. they should be flywheel end in the middle

Just out of interest, why does their position matter?

I’ve wondered that as the lengths are the same as the others, except the for the shorter two.

not sure why it matters, i read it haynes manual, i havn't started the job yet cuz it says in haynes 15 ft lb torque when tightening and my torque wrench ranges from 20- 100 ft lb, cheers for the info !

I think I tried to torque them up the first time I did this and ended up almost stripping the threads, so I'd recommend not bothering.

Just do them up fairly tight, and use your best judgement.
