Changing Induction Kit?

Recommended Posts

stimpysaurus

I'm just wondering how difficult it is to put a standard air box back onto a car that has a k&n fitted. It looks like the shortened one in the article on the main page http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles.php?data=e2-induct1

I was thinking of changing cars but I cant afford to buy one unless I sell the 205 so I thought maybe I could just keep it but I'd have to have a "standard" car to have reasonable insurance. the only changes are strut brace and the induction kit but it puts my insurance up by about £600!

I don't have any of the original intake system hoses & air box (i presume someone on here would be abke to help me with that if needed)

Is it dificult to do/would it be expensive? Is there anything that can majorly go wrong and stop the car working (if there is im sure i will manage it :) )

hope someone can give me some insight into this

thanks

Are you sure about this, if you go for one of the specialists like Adrian Flux or others listed on here an induction kit isn't going to make much difference - I had mine insured as a standard colour, then realised I should get it insured properly as it has loads of mods (GTi6 engine, throttle bodies, Emerald ECU, lowered, widened, bigger brakes, etc, etc) and it only added less than £100 to the price of the insurance and that included track cover!

Well going back to standard intake would cost you about 10 shiny gold coins in parts + royal mail delivery at a guess. Not much to go round, disconnect pipes and reconnect the original system with some shiny new bolts job done.

I'm not sure if turning 21 and having 1 year no claims will help but I did phone adrian flux first last year. I mentioned the modifications and i was quoted £1800 so I pretty much left it at that with them and went with the postoffice for £1200.

But i didnt mention any modfications to them - i know voided insurance if i need to claim etc, thats why i want to do it properly this year. Would AF still have me on file as having modifications? how does it work if a car is put back to standard?

Would not having a cat installed be likely to cause any problems if i need to make a claim? I'm sure it doesnt say on my documents that its supposed to have one, I just happend to be researching the engine model and found out that it would have had one fitted.

why do they have to spoil all the fun by making us have insurance - its too complicated and they allways twist things to screw u over :)

Insurance companies are a fickle bunch.

I remember reading years ago, about a lady who bought and insured a new mini (original kind) as standard. When it came to claiming, they voided her claim, as the dealer, to increase sales, fitted alloy wheels. Which shouldnt have been fitted on a 'standard' model of her car.

Quite how true and indepth this was im unsure, it was a very long time ago, but thats the general gist.

I find it hard to see how just those 2 mods equate to £600. Its worth ringing around. As a lot of companies dont even consider a filter as a mod from what ive heard.

Its easy to swap back to the standard intake system but you'll need the AFM bracket that fits around the batery tray to hold it in place as well as the pipes.

Under an hours work to remove the induction kit & fit everything back to standard imo.

Graham.

I would call a gentleman called Gary Mouslon up at Keith Micheals. I'm only 24 and have 2 years NCB, 3 points for a TS10 and 2 non fault claims. My insurance last year worked out to be £1000 after swapping it from my old Impreza. The renewal was in December last year and came in at £470 fully comp, all mods declared (big brake kit, induction kit, lowering springs, exhaust etc). PM me if you would like his details, as I am sure he would do a better quote for yourself as it is specialised insurance.

I hate insurance companies, though 4 years no claims has netted me a tidy £480 policy and thats declaring the carbs

As for fitting the STD induction its a 10min job if you have all the parts....
