205 Gti-6 Clutch Choises..

Recommended Posts

springs

in doing my 205 gti -6 conversion ive been told that a 205 clutch wont fit the new engine and that a Mi16 one is best to use.. the 205 clutch on the old engine is pretty new and would be a shame for it to go to waste..

iirc the engine already has a clutch on it in an unknown condition.. would this be ok to use?

Otherwise where is the best place to find a Mi16 clutch kit at a very good price??

a BX 16v clutch is the most common one to be used, ECP do a Valeo one for about £70.

the 8v 205 clutch doesn't fit as its 200mm not 215mm, and the gti6 clutch doesn't work with 205 gearboxes or cables without a fair amount of work.

Question is, what gearbox are you going to use?

This will determin wherever you need a 306 or a 405 clutch, but unfortunatly your 205 one is too small.

If you want to retain the std 205 clutch you can switch the flywheel on the engine to a 200mm flywheel with teeth (from the late cat equipped 1.9 8v or 1.8 16v engines)

The 200mm set up is lighter than the Mi 215mm set up and if it's good enough for the likes of an engine lugging a heavy 406 estate it will be more than up to the weight of a 205.

Also it's cheaper to get a flywheel for the likes of £20 than it is for a new clutch at 70 :)
