Look At The State Of This Bearing!

Recommended Posts

This is the shell i retrieved out my S16 engine, it was pretty stuck on the crank!

When i got the engine the main end cap on conrod number 3 was in the sump along with 1 half of the shell.

Any ideas whats happened to it?

Last time I saw a big-end shell in that state, the engine (another S16 by pure coincidence) had burst an oil cooler line on the motorway and run at high revs with no oil, generating enough heat to literally melt the shell <_<

I bought the engine for £50 as spares or repair, didn't get very far...

The bloke i bought it off said that he took the engine out a 405 a while back because of a slight knocking.

That would of been making a hell of a racket!
