if i was to just upgrade the ARB on my 309 beam, and leave the TB as std,

what is the affect of this?

More oversteer! I fitted a 24mm ARB to the RG and its beautiful in the dry, although a bit of a handful in the wet (need to find a 19mm one).

It's sort of a halfway house to stiffer torsion bars, although technically not a replacement for, as you're increasing the effective spring rate of each side under certain conditions (mostly roll....).

Ideally you would do the torsion bars, i.e match them to your front springs, then adjust the ARB accordingly.

so if it's great for the dry, i could just disconnect one side in the wet?

Im considering doing something similar Spiky, but with a 23mm ZX item.

A lot of people say it tightens the car up, maybe might induce a little oversteer when prompted

23? only 21, 22 and 24 used on the ZX

I think i better take it out and have a look

It *might* be a 22mm item then thinking about it...

You'll get increased turn in and the whole car will feel more agile, but can feel a touch nervous/skittish on fast bumpy corners. Matching it with a 309 front ARB gets rid of the nervousness and leaves a well rounded package, and is what I ran on my own car for a while :D

Oh, and it'll wag its inside wheel around alot easier as well if you want some three wheelin' tripod antics

Sorry to hijack but would the ZX arb be a suitable/cheap upgrade option for mine?

It’s a fully stripped 309 with uprated springs and dampers (just fast road jobbies) and standard bars on the rear with Tarmac billies.

Or would I be best off leaving it alone until the fronts get upgraded?

I have one in my blue 205, lots of fun, and not *too* bad in the wet, aslong as you're not half asleep...

I use a 25mm arb with standard torsion bars on my 205 beam. I also have the 309 front ARB and found it fantastic in the wet at brands. If Nething could have done with the 205 front arb to dial out that last little bit of understeer.

It would oversteer very progressivly with no throttle. Loads of fun <_<

so why do people fit the uprated TB's then?

to match the higher spring rate up front.

ARB can only transfer on the TB's torsion. So you're limited by the torsion bars. plus tail squat from acceleration and lift from braking too, all things which act to reduce the composure of the car.

Big TB's and small ARB is quite a nice set up over all.
