Hi all, has anyone done a conversion to make the steering lighter.

Its a 92 1.4 SPFI and am i best looking for oe PAS equipment and rack from a non GTI (if so which model) or an electric rack from one of other cars ?

Advice and rough costs would be helpfull

Cheers

None of my cars have power steering. You get a couple more bhp out of the engine, and exercise is good for you!

I've been fitting a PAS rack to the RG today and come across a couple of issues:

1) the fatter pinion assembly doesnt clear the gear linkage post, so I had to cut a notch out of the post

2) the linkage wants to go straight through a bracket on the rack to that had to be cut off

And i'm not running the power steering so I don't know how clearances go with the pipes, but i can see it being close!

Once the gear quadrant goes on there's no way the pipes will go in.

If you turn your head at a funny angle this photo shows the problem with the quadrant:

helo

I have a 205 RG 1.4i and I would put a power sterring, but I have a problem. I can't find a power sterring rack, pump, pipes.... for a 1.4 TU engine. It's possible to instal on this engine and on subframe (because a subframe is diferent from gti right?) power sterring from gti? I doubt.

Thank you

How does eletric pas work?

on standar or mechanic pump you have a belt which rotate a pump...on eletric it's a electric motor wich rotate a pump and it take less power from engine as standar pump.

Another good propertis od electric it's that you can put it anywhere arount the engine because it needn't a belt.
