Good Spec For Fast Road/track Setup

Recommended Posts

Ok , i currently have a 205, with front avo coilovers, and spex rear dampers, i am putting a gti6 lump in and wish to get the car handling well on the road and on the track. I have noticed people swap the arb's torison bars , dampers and height etc. I would like to know what a ideal setup would be for myself. And also the ideal height for my car.

Unfortunately there isn't really such a thing as an "ideal" set up, just whatever works for you. However here are my views.

Stiffer rear torsion bars definitely do improve things, however these are expensive, so it does depend on your budget. A stiffer rear anti roll bar is also a good improvement, can be done more cheaply with a modified 306 item.

As a start you need to know what front springs you have on your coilovers, e.g. spring rate. Going stiff on the front without altering the rear will make the car understeer. Also recognise the difference between stiff springing and stiff damping- stiff dampers are no substitute for stiffer springs or torsion bars.

Another area to look at is geometry, especially at the front, the car can use more negative camber. This can be achieved either with 309 wishbones and driveshafts, or with eccentric top mounts.
