Tailgate Wires

Recommended Posts

benny205mi16

Hello,

I have done a search but the ones I found were for people who had cut the loom and were re-joining them.

I can not do this as my car came like this.

There are no wires in the tailgate, (apart from heated window) just the original loom from the car.

I have identified all the wires apart from two, they split off from the loom and are not long enough to reach the bottom of the boot (where the wiper is).

I thought they might be from a third brake light if this was an option?

But when I press the brake peddle there is no power at these wires.

I have tried to do a link to the photos, I hope this has worked.

I have been trying to add the photos for ages but do not know what I am doing.

If the links have worked I have circled the wires in yellow that I do not know, the ones in red I now know.

thank you

There will be wires running to the central locking on the boot lock and also to the wiper. There was never any high level brake lights on 205's that I know of. There will also be a tilt switch on the tailgate and there will be wires going to it too [so the boot light comes on when boot opens]. I can't remember what colours they are though.

I have found the wires for the wiper and the lock,

But still have these two left over.

I have not found this tilt switch though, and my boot light does not come on.

Do you know where this switch is?

Thank you.

Yip it's not a 'switch in the way you think' as such. It will be a small white bullet shape and screwed to the tailgate but it may be missing.

I think this could be missing, as the tailgate it came with had just been bolted on, thats it.

Ill check for this switch in the morning when there will be some daylight.

I do not think the wires I have are for this though,

because if I fed the down inside the boot lid they are only long enough to get about half way down the window.

(if that makes sense) they would not reach to by the wiper and lock.

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow of mine for you to see the way everything should be layed out :o.

Thank you.

I am just lost as to what these wires are for.

I have been out this moring,

and my tilt switch is there,I have had the boot light working.

On the two cables in question there are some numbers.

36B on one and M36B on another.

I have looked in my haynes manual, but I am useless with electrical drawings and just do not know what I am looking at.

Does anyone understand these number?

36 is for the brake light, so sounds like you've got an extra wire.

to test it hold the brake pedal down and see if you got power tothe 36 wire.

i take it both your brakelights work?

Yes both brake lights work.

When I press the brake peddle there is no power to either cable.

I have also press every button and switch that has anything to do with the back end and still no power to them,

heated rear window, wiper, washer, and I have found the central locking ones.

I have just done a search on here for High level brake lights,

In some of the results people are talking about OE third brake lights as an option.

Is it possible the wires I have are for this?

Could they be fitted in the standard loom and only connected at both ends if the option is take?

This would explain why I have no power even when pressing the brake pedel, because if it was connected at the one end but not at the brake light end, this could cause a short on the bare connections.

Do you think this could be the case?

If so I can just tape the wires to the rest of the loom and leave it there,

I just dont want to feed them through only to have to pull them all back out again, if they are for somthing.
