manrajf 0 Posted February 21, 2009 What info did you find after doing a search mate ? Iv searched and cant find the exact size, as i was hoping to take a tape measure tomorrow to check it out, and as i bought the beam for 70 quid im not sure...it might just end up being a 205 1.9 beam cheers any help would be appreciated manraj
Cloverleaf 1 Posted February 22, 2009 I couldn't measure the dimension you wanted as my 309 beam is in bits but my cross tube (seal to seal) is about 990mm across. Should be accurate enough to differentiate between 205 and 309.
marksorrento205 80 Posted February 22, 2009 Also IIRC the 309 beam has 20mm torsion bars so you could measure them.
jimistdt 1 Posted February 22, 2009 Won't it also have 'D' & 'G' Stamped on the mounts?
manrajf 0 Posted February 22, 2009 hey guys, i pikced the beam and it looks like a 309 one with20mm torsion bars. Its has alot of surface rust on it though. Is it advisable to sand blast the beam first then strip as im going to change all the inards. Or should i strip it first then sand blast it. Question is if i strip it first i hope i dont get the sand where its not supposed to go to. Thnks manraj
pug_ham 241 3 Cars Posted February 22, 2009 It shouldn't matter if you sandblast it built up before stripping or after you've stripped it imo. Once its all apart there isn't anywhere the blasting sand can get caught to cause any problems that a good blow over with an airline won't clear. Won't it also have 'D' & 'G' Stamped on the mounts? No, iirc thats only on the 205 1.9 GTI beam mounts. 309 has same mounts across the range & as the 205 inc 1.6 GTI. Graham.
