mhyphenl 10 1 Cars Posted February 20, 2009 Been trying to get the top of my gear stick off to remove it from one car and into another, the rubber gators have perished in my 1.9 so want to swap in this one from a 1.4. When I try to unscrew it moves in 90 degree lumps but doesn't seem to go anywhere!?
Tom Fenton 1,524 Posted February 20, 2009 Twist and pull and it should come off.

GLPoomobile 958 Posted February 20, 2009 Oh, the wonders of the search engine! +gear +knob +remove would have found you the following link within 2 minutes old topic +gear +knob Gives less specific results (so there's a lot more topics to look through), but once again there is a result from that on the first page that answers the question. Again, took about a minute to find it. Now go and have fun tugging your knob

Cameron 16 Posted February 20, 2009 Got a good story from college along these lines.. One of the vehicle repair boys (spanner monkeys) broke his nose removing a steering wheel. He took the nut all the way off and then pulled and pulled until eventually it let go and smashed him straight in the face.
christopher 5 1 Cars Posted February 20, 2009 Be careful when you take it off or you will damage the thread.
boombang 2 Posted February 20, 2009 twist 45 degrees, do a search, then the knob magically comes off. No idea why people talk about turning it around and around, the lugs inside most knobs I've pulled off (and there has been a few!) have been at 45 degrees to the notches and grooves on the gear lever.
