16 Nimrods With 205 45 16 On A 205 Advice!

Recommended Posts

Paulmac19

Hi and hello from me i have a 205 cti 1.9 phase 2 k reg

i live in northern ireland so these wee motors and indeed 205s in general are quite a rare bear!

i have been updating and restoreing my cti and apart from a small piece a welding and a respay its pretty much looking how i want or should i say can afford to make it look smile.gif

so here is my problem i recently bought a set of 206 gti nimrod rims coming with 205 45 16 tyres on them for a very respectful £120

i took of my old rims 1.9 gti rims with 195 50 15 off because i would like to get these restored evenually

so of couse the rims now rub against the back of the inner arches bodywork side

now i know changing the tyres to 195 45 16 is the problem solved

but i was wondering would fitting 10mm spacers allow them to fit because things are pretty tight on the external arches side too!

flat spacers or hubcentric spacers have both been mentioned has anyone came across this before and are the spacers going to put extra stress on the rear axel as far as i know the hubcentric spacers eliminate this or so they say!

any help would be great folks

would love to hear from anyone else from Northern Ireland/Ireland we dont even have a club over here!

Ah yes, the 206 nimrods have the wrong offset for 205's, there are others available that are correct, but I can't for the life of me, remember what pug they come from. Im thinking 406?

Spacers are your solution here, although do they need to be 10mm?

not sure what size of spacer would be the correct size i was planning 10mm to be safe but then again i dont really know if the new rim has a different offset or is the 205 tyre to blame has anyone else put 205 wide tyres 15 or 16inch on with using spacers not forgetting that even the 1.9 cti came with 1.6 running gear ie drums in the rear!

10mm spacers would put them pretty much perfect as they're Et28 or thereabouts and the 205 needs Et18.

don't forget that that rule isn't 100%, as they are half an inch wider, but you wont be far off at all.

these actually fitted the front of my 309 goodwood without a spacer at all (195 tyres), and a 5mm one at the back, any more and the 205 width tyres on the back would have caught the arches.

15mm fit fine and look nice.

Thanks have you tried this 206 offset on a 205 with the 15mm spacer yourself bearing in mind the 205 instead of 195 tyres on the nimrods

came very close to just selling these and giving it up for the orginals

inpluse buys on ebay some times they bite me on the ass this, i am thinking was one of them!

Hi to all just an update on those 206 gti nimrods fitting onto my 205

truth is they don’t and wont

got talking to a really helpful guy on e bay selling hub centric spacers

to correct the off set I did need the 20mm spacers as said in your posts

but after measuring the distance between the inner and outer arches I only had 8inches edge to edge

I don’t know if this is because the 1.9 Cti model uses the 1.6 running gear i.e. drum brakes

the rims coupled with the 205 45 16 tyres took up the full eight inches in tyre width alone

so I could not space the rims out by even 5mm let alone 20mm

now I have heard that these wheels come on a 406 as well

these do however have the correct offset

but you will need to change the tyres as they normally come with 215 45 16

just thought I would let ya know and again thank you for all your help

I have now uploaded few pictures of my wee motor

and a list of work I have carried out

Sadly without the nimrods fitted :D
