Top Speeds In Each Gear For A 1.6 Be3 Box With 4.8 Cwp?

Hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can answer: as the topic says does anyone know the top speeds for a 1.6 BE3 box with 4.8 CWP in each gear? Reason is that I'm looking at changing to this for better acceleration (car is going to be abused on gravel rallies), and am looking for it topping out at somewhere around 100mph in 5th. At the moment I don't think the car would get fast enough in stage to use 5th for long (4th tops out at somewhere around 90+mph).

Cheers, Steven

Flat in 5th in my old 1.9 8v (completely standard engine) was about 110mph indicated. Obviously with tyre diameters, rev limit and general reading errors that's hardly accurate, but there's plenty of gearbox calculator spreadsheets out there if you do a quick search . Suffice to say on gravel I'm sure a 4.8, or even a 4.9/5.1, will be just the job - if you've got an extended rev limit you'll pull some more on top of that.

Cheers, a bit of googling and I've now worked it all out. 6500 in 5th should give 103.5mph with gravel tyres which should be plenty!

You should think about using a 1.9 box with the 4.8. It's got a taller 1st gear and all the others are the same as the 1.6. It gets rid of the big gap between 1st and 2nd that the 1.6 box suffers with.
