205 Turbo Rr Session

Well done Tris, good results! what's intresting is how these power/torque figures compare to mine. im guesing you were using a cossie intercooler?

No its a universal one from E-bay ,alot bigger than the cosworth one and alot easier to mount although I have used cosworth ones on two of the conversions and a Diahatsu one on the other.

Do you have a copy of the RR report you could post also just for a comparison?,As I already mentioned the turbo on this one is a bit worse for wear and I also think that the actuator has gone weak also,It used to happily boost fiercely upto 1 bar with no worries at all but it now just about manages .7,Hence we are now going to fit The T28 and emerald with Saab red top injectors,we wanted a "Before and after" comparison.

The guys at Rapid chariots (Located just the other side of Canterbury about 15 Miles from us) specialise mainly in VW group vehicle engines but they were more than enthusiastic to see Marks car and find out all about it,I couldn't recommend them enough they also Map emerald ecu's which is fantastic for us we had to go all the way to Norwich last time !.

I dont know if I can post their No on here or not (? for the mods)

Bally
I would say 220bhp and 240 LB ft of torque, Get any more and the gear's start stripping but you can;t complain from a std box designed for 160bhp, As you know even with 150bhp and xx torque in the 406 etc they all use the ML box

Well I run mine everyday at 228+ whp and have no probs, Its a Std mi16 box with 4.1 fd and quaife lsd.

I think what Miles was getting at here was the ability of the gearbox to handle the torque

Miles

I was, but even with 200bhp plus used hard and they will go bang, some quicker than other's, It would be good to find out any offical figure's of what the boxes are rated at.

Well done Tris and Mark, yes looking forward to getting my one on the RR for comparison!

Tris and Mark did my conversion, it goes very well, def need a quaife LSD!

My spec is similar to Marks car, dkz cam, mod gear box, cossie 4wd intercooler that fits behind grill.I am running 1 bar of boost as my turbo is a bit fresher than Marks so would love to crack the 200 bhp mark!

I spoke to Pug-Performance, they are tuning a customers 205 at the moment, using low compression pistons, their ECU ( cant remember name ) and the T25 turbo modified by TT to T28 spec, they are hoping for 260 BHP.

I love m conversion by Tris, cant wait for the MOT and give it some on the road! oh and to Le Mans!

I think based on what Miles has achieved with Omex you would get some REALLY good results with programmable management,The turbo on your car is a really good unit and the engine had really low mileage also so I would expect to see good results if not better than what we have got from Marks car !,You should run it down to Rapid Chariots when you come to see us for the suspension just to see what its producing !

Here's a dyno print out of my car Tris. the power curves are fairly similar, apart from mine drops dead just before 5,500rpm, as opposed to your friends which makes power all the way upto 6,000rpm! I'm guessin this is due to the DKZ cam that your running. Ive also noticed that mine is making a bit more torque, but im not sure if this is down to the fact that im running the standard cam, or marginally higher boost (0.8bar).

Cheers, Marc.

Fairly interesting that yours made more torque not sure if thats due to higher boost (probably) or the cam?,Perhaps some one may be able to comment on that ?,Im sure that once we get that lovely T28 on there its really going to come into its own,If you look at the 2nd page with the boost graph you can see how early the turbo reaches max pressure (albeit .7) but then runs out of puff ,Even when it was running 1 bar happily it still ran out of puff fairly early and progressivly more so as the revs wound on.

I would say that with the DKZ cam the engine is far more willing to rev and will do so happily to the rev limiter in every gear, whereas the std cammed ones I have driven seem to hit a wall at 5500rpm and thats your lot.

I do remember reading on here along long time ago, when jacobs53 was dynoing various Turbo lumps, that the older RGY made peak power @ 6000rpm

and the later RGX @ 4600rpm ?!

Have the two of them got different cams or is it all to do with the comp ratio ?

They do well, The one I;ve done makes 208bhp and 245lb ft of torque, all std bar a OMEX ECU and a 1mm larger bore

What pistons did you use Miles, were they just O.E. oversize ones or ones from another source ?

Cheers

Tris

Crazy-legs!

I've just obtained some Wossner 86.5mm pistons for my RGX. The main reason i chose aftermarket items is because i wanted forged items as oppossed the the standard cast ones. If i ever get it finnished, i'll let you all know how i got on!
