Cam Timing - Offset Dowel

Most people don't realise, that if you skim the head, you retard the ignition timing. Here's how I correct the problem. In this case, the cam is advanced 2º (crank). The same can be done for aftermarket cams, the beauty of which the cam locking hole remains, which isn't always the case with aftermarket vernier pulleys.

Using original locking hole but with the different pin ? (OE pin is square shape if i remember)

There are two versions, round pin and square pin. The round is easily knocked out. Drill out the square pin.

Indeed ! there's two .. memory is a bit shabby lately .

I've an assortment of both types then ..

 

Any way one can find out how much is 1deg. spacing on the pulley , say from the center of the OE pin in either direction advance<->retard , without measuring on the engine with the dial gauge ?

1 deg (cam) = 0.25mm
