Loss of brake pressure in reverse

Recommended Posts

Hi all

i have a strange one with my brakes.

I have a gti6 conversion with 283mm discs all round. Whilst reversing on my drive I have to right hand down on the wheel and I hit a slightly high bit of curb . The road I am reversing off Is down hill to my drive which is slightly up hill. When I get on the drive I lose all braking pressure and have to pump the peddle like mad to get it back. This is the only time it seems to happen but I’ve not had the car long so it could possibly happen else where. I was thinking possibly the compensators are playing up? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would suggest there is a problem with a wheel bearing somewhere, and your loss of brake pressure is actually the pads getting pushed back by the hub wanking about, and when you are pumping the pedal it is pushing the pads back up to the disc.

have had this on a 309 with a 6 speed box, the caliper would hit the end of the gearbox and push the piston back.
