Horn stalk not working

Recommended Posts

My horn has decided not to work any more.

I have wired it straight to battery and i works so i know its ok.

I then checked wiring from horn wire to fuse board and that's all good.

Checked wiring from stalk to fuse board and thats all good.

I checked with another stalk and still no joy.

I then used a 12v supply from stalk plug (red wire) and bridge the plug and the horn works.

So im guessing that the stalks our fautly. Im going to take my spare apart and have a look inside to see.

As i have a sparco steering wheel i'm going to wire in the horn button In the mean time.

now can i just splice into the horn wire and the 12v Supply in the stalk plug. ? That way i retain the use of the fuse.

Or is there another way to do it.

Not sure if this is off any use, I was getting intermittent issues with my Horn stalk, turned out the fuse board itself was going home probably due to some corrosion, I swapped the fuse board for another and have not had an issue since.

there's been a few versions of this issue over the last couple years

+1 what spencer said

it sounds like your fuseboard's dud, as was mine

sometimes there are variations, like several things go at once etc

but the fuseboards seem to be gradually falling off the obsolesence cliff about now

anyway, all the problems and the solution is in this earlier posting:

Dont ever remember seeing a conclusion to that thread, handy to know, not long invested in a soldering iron to install a load of LED lights on my stairs, going to give this a go now, get some more use from the iron but also be lovely if I can get that old fuse board working properly again as would be handy having a fully working spare.

Thought about this and its not the fuse board, because if i put 12v to the horn wire on the stalk plug the horn works. Meaning a duff horn stalk.

hmmm, you sure ?

that sounds eerily similar to mine and it was a fuseboard-outer jobby

I mostly fumble thru electrical issues, they're frustrating and confusing, and then they work

if you're ordering a new stalk make sure to avoid the following traps:

get a proper valeo one as there's some bad knockoffs about

and dont mistake the 205 stalk for the similar 405 unit or further disappointment ensues

beep beep
