XU9J4 rebuild, crankshaft id?

I'm currently working on a D6C engine for my 1989 BX 16v, I bought the car a few years ago without an engine.
The head rebuild has been done by the previous owner so I am doing the bottom bit now.

After taking the oil sump off I noticed that the pistons and con rods were numbered. The original crankshaft has been replaced by one with 4 counter weights, the casting numbers are 131 and A1.
Does anybody know if this is a forged or cast crank,  and if so,  where it originates from?

Most likely just a 1.9 8v crank. 

The numbered rods indicate that it might had a rebuild already; got no history with the engine?

Yes, it’s a cast iron crank, most likely from an 8V.

No history, bought it 2 years ago of a farmer.

I'll replace the crankshaft with a DW10 430.

Not sure if I can keep the original pistons, maybe a upgrade to a 83,5mm bore.

I'll rework the head a bit to improve the flow.

Usually, the pistons are fine and it's the liners that wear. Beware of cheap aftermarket pistons. The oem pistons are rod centred and I've never seen an aftermarket piston that is. I've had to machine the inside of piston and make thrust washers, in order to keep the thrust measurement in check. Otherwise, the rods will smash into the crank and crack the piston bosses. Additionally, the engine reconditioners need to be experienced in boring liners. Otherwise, they usually end up oval. New Westwood liners and rings are a cheaper option.

If it had a rebuild before, I would first measure the liners to see what you've got...  Maybe it did not do many miles after rebuild.

Thanks for the infos, I'll get everything measured first.

A engine specialist around the corner will take care of it, he is familiar with XU engines.

It has been at least 17 years since I did my last XU5/9 8v rebuild.

Does anybody know if a XU10J4RS timing belt cover fits on a D6C?

The engine came without one.

I have a few here in Sydney but I’d imagine postage will be prohibitive. Did you put an ad in the wanted section?

Looks like I'll need a few more bit and pieces, I'm making a list.
