Air Filters: OE Unit or Aftermarket ?

Recommended Posts

Gohn

this is for the XUD7 D and TD

Im pretty comfortable with with most things OE but the Air Filter Unit is difficult to get in/out

So for convenience I've gone with a POD or Cone shaped filter

a recent comment from an old diesel mechanic suggested the cone/pod filters aren't nearly as good for engine life

so now Im considering

1. putting the OE unit back on that I kept OR

2. Getting a better foam Pod unit

option 2 would be best if it still protects the engine but if not its back to OE

wondering if anyone has an opinion on these things ?

Dont drive offroad or anything and its not for performance at all,

but I just like how much easier to see things and get to things all round

there look to be two versions of the OE filter elements, one paper, one foam, same dimensions

the aftermarket cone filters come in either mesh/cotton or foam

Foam filter was initially supplied by the OE when buying from Peugeot directly .. seemed less restrictive than paper with "better filtration" as it was meant for dipping into oil/saturate the filter with clean oil prior to fitment , kinda like aftermarket performance K&N filters .

I've had and used both trough the years , no much difference to be felt .. maybe a little bit better with foam one as paper tend to clog up faster (foam breaks/disintegrate if left/neglected for too long) , if changing/replacing on time and using good quality aftermarket brands either one will do .

cheers D

think I've heard previously that the OE foam units are better than the OE paper

so if I go back to the OE option I'll get foam

but what about option 2. getting the foam cone/POD filter ?

they look like they'd be no worse than an OE foam or paper filter surely?

pay a bit more upfront but you can clean and reuse them lots
