Screeching alternator belt

Recommended Posts

Dimi

Hi, hope you all are doing well!

Recently, I replaced the alternator and at first tightened the belt (by the 1cm bending rule). Upon running the engine though, I felt the alternator getting very hot, so I could not touch it.

So, I loosened the belt a little. Now I can hold the alternator by hand when engine is running. However its belt screeches for a second when starting the engine and sometimes very little when rev matching.

Do you think I should tighten the belt again (upto the point when I press the belt it moves 1cm) and not worry about the temp of the alternator?

Appreciate your opinions.

Cheers!

I ha the same dilemma,  so adjusted somewhere in between your two attempts.   Was fine for awhile then started squealing again due to the new belt initial stretch, so just a small adjustment tighter and been ok since.
