Recommended Posts

Hi all,

hope you are all well.

does anyone know if there is meant to be a gasket between the sump spacer and the block or just sealant its the 8v 1.9 engine.

thanks very much

Gohn

thought it had a spacer and a gasket ??

(but that's just from flicking thru the part catalog on my way to the diesel pages)

I've never worked on a 1.9GTi so no proper experience with this. I hope it doesn't confuse things..

Nope, just sealant. Fit the spacer to the block first, using dummy M7 bolts to keep it tight. Clean up and let it set overnight. Next day, fit the sump and and you’re done. Trying to fit it all in one session, if upside down, is a pita. I use ThreeBond 1211.

I should add, we only get A/C sumps here, which are aluminium. If steel, then yes, use a gasket between sump and spacer.
