Cambelt & Mechanic Advice

Recommended Posts

Tom1990

Hi guys

I picked up a 205 GTI a few weeks back now. Cambelt was last done 5 years ago / 18,000 miles ago. Do I need to replace ASAP or OK for a while? Can I check wear just by taking the top cover off?

If so I'd like to use someone who's trustworthy, I live in central/east London and have had some dodgy/untrustworthy mechanics. Does anyone have any recommendations for good honest mechanics who know 205 GTIs in the London area?

Thanks in advance, loving the car so far, such a nice change from the modern stuff I've had previously.

Tom

I Would do a full service, Oil, Oil filter, fuel filter, brake fluid and cambelt and sager pump while You are doing the cambelt to establish a “year zero” with you and your new car.

Not 205 specialists by any means, but have been using these guys for MOTs (inc the 205 Race car) and some work on the daily for years. Friendly, helpful, and they don't take the piss with prices.

Would certainly be capable of a cambelt / water-pump change and fluids and filters on a 205 if you don't fancy doing it yourself. Can recommend.
