Bosch VE Diesel Pump Rebuild

Recommended Posts

xstian

I have a Bosch VE pump fitted to my 1.9 xud in my 205. The pump has started to leak, looks like it coming from the bottom of the pump.

Seal kits look pretty cheap and there seems to be a fair bit of info on rebuilding these. Just wondering if any one has any experience rebuilding one of these of whether its a specialist job?

A bit late to answer, I have done a few of these, its the large o ring where the hydraulic head meets the alloy body of the pump that usually leaks, it can be swapped with the pump on the car its a bit fiddley and involves always keeping one retaining bolt in so the whole thing doesn't come apart. Or the front seal behind the drive pulley leaks, also can be done in place and easy to do, if You can do a timing belt You can do this.

I think it was leaking from the large o ring. Unfortunately when I stripped the pump down, 1 of the 2 retaining springs inside had broken into 3. This caused damage to the bearings and cam plate, so rendered the pump scrap.

Ive now fitted a replacement pump and the car goes much better now. So the broken spring must have been hampering the performance.
