XU5JA bearing cap side seal projection

Recommended Posts

Archie's mid life crisis

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. I'm rebuilding my XU5JA engine and noticed that the Haynes manual recommends that the rubber side seals on main bearing No1 cap are trimmed so that they are 2mm clear of the mating surface - see photo. It seems unlikely that the sump will seal properly if I do this. Has anyone had any success doing this?

Thanks

I think the idea is they shrink a bit when they get heated up during use so they should be a little proud how much I'm not sure but its been discussed before .They are commonly called hockey sticks and the dealer ones are much better quality/easier to fit .

they won't stop the sump sealing, they do shrink back as every sump ive had off has had them flush.

1mm I thought the measurement was.

Definitely 2mm and always allow 24 hours before cutting, after fitting.
