Cylinder head removal

Recommended Posts

jupiterroom

Am following Haynes to try and get the head off.  I've done the following:

1) loosened but not removed the bottom engine mount rubber bolt

2) removed the drivers side engine mount top nut

Now when I try and jack the block up I can get nowhere near the side bolts.  The engine does move a little but I'm basically jacking the entire car up.

Any tips?

Rich

Do you mean remove the cylinder head or the whole engine?

The head.   I've done it but had to remove the entire top engine mount.  I just couldn't see anyway to get to the 2nd bolt (the front most one) otherwise.

Finally out now

What I actually ended up doing:

1) Undo the bottom engine mount bolt (the one that goes through the rubber)

2) Removed the top right engine mount entirely (not just the nut as the HM says)

3) Jacked up the engine

4) Pulled the engine forward enough to get at the front most bolt holding the head onto the engine mount

5) Just about managed to get at the back bolt with a spanner

6) Swore a lot

Et voila - I'm guessing it shouldn't have been as difficult as that and I probably missed something really obvious
