Her mi16 work in progress

So I've recently got my old mi16 back, its looking very sorry for itself as its lived under a tree for the best part of 10 years.

After getting her home and up on the ramps we discovered without surprise a very rotten underside.

On the plus side the twin 45s and the rest of the engine is in the boot.

This will be a long project as weve decided to re shell it with a slightly less rotten one that's become available about 5 miles from us!

Planning on getting this running with the original 1.6 and gradually change things over and tidy it up. In the meantime we will get the mi16 engine sorted out and that will go in last.

So weve gone from no gti in our life to 3!

Once the lockdown lightens up we will bring no3 home to join these 2.

I'm wanting to try save fucx if possible so weve begun stripping it back to see just how bad the rust situation is.

We ran out of time but next is to get the front wings off.

Tom took the rest of the engine and exhaust out and it's now living in the workshop instead of in the shed.

Tom's nova shell has been kicked out to join the 1.6. Poor nova but not much chance of that getting a look in just now.

Managed to source a spit ready to repair this, I'm going to soda blast the outer shell and glass blast the inner bits and underside.

Trying the blaster out, it's really quite satisfying so think I will enjoy this part!

We will now strip the last few bits off.

Safe to say we know this 205 very intimately now! I've quite a large list of perished parts that will need replaced when the time comes but nothing we didnt expect.

Need to clear the route to the shed that we will be using for blasting the shell but otherwise feel like we are making decent progress.

Supposed to be saving up for our wedding so cant see the engine getting much attention until that's paid for. But its progress so happy days!

Unfortunately no updates as weve been busy with work and wedding planning. It's still tucked away in the corner of the workshop.

The orange 1.9 needs the gearbox out so thatll b getting attention before the mi.
