brake caliper and carrier grinding

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i am about to downsize my tires to the original size of 14" (from 15") and i have a bigger brakes install with 266mm discs.

the discs are not rubbing but the caliper is.

i was going to go on a route of wheel spacer but since i don't want to have the negative effect on the steering and suspension i decided to go on a different route.

i saw the the caliper is SLIGHTLY rubbing so i decided to shave it off a little and then paint it.

my brother is a little concern on what I've done (he is a mechanical engineer), he said the the brakes are designed on a specific  strength

but i think they always have a margin.

at the end of the day, i didn't have all that much (see pictures)

what do you think

thanks

Ido

I've also had to take a grinder to fit my brakes over the wheels, i think i took more off than you as well....

Anyway the brakes have been on for months and have had no problems at all.

I get why your bro is concerned but i dont think Peugeot were "engineering" anything for strength back then, they just grab whatever is in the parts bin and throw that on :)

Think you're exaggerating a bit... They did calculate on what they were building, but you should see it in the 80's time frame with limited computing power.

With respect to the brakes; likely they are Bosch parts, so the math on the brakes themselves is done by the germans...
